Actual individual consumption per capita in Slovenia in 2020 at 80% of the EU-27 average
Actual individual consumption per capita in purchasing power standards in Slovenia in 2020 was 20% lower than the EU-27 average. The Slovenian gross domestic product per capita in purchasing power standards in 2020 amounted to 89% of the EU-27 average.
Eurostat published the nowcast on actual individual consumption (AIC) per capita and gross domestic product (GDP) per capita, expressed in purchasing power standards (PPS) for 2020 and for 37 European countries.
AIC per capita in PPS in Slovenia in 2020 20% lower than the EU-27 average
The material well-being of households is better reflected by AIC, which is made up of goods and services actually consumed by individuals, than by GDP per capita.
Among 37 European countries the highest AIC per capita in PPS was in 2020 recorded in Luxembourg (31% above the EU-27 average), followed by Norway (28% above), Iceland (24% above) and Germany and Switzerland (each 23% above the EU-27 average).
The lowest AIC was recorded in Albania (60% below the EU-27 average), followed by Bosnia and Herzegovina (57% below) and North Macedonia (56% below).
In 2020, AIC per capita in PPS in Slovenia was at 80% of the EU-27 average, which is 2 percentage points lower than in 2019. Countries ranking close to Slovenia in terms of AIC per capita in PPS in 2020 were Romania and Estonia (each 79% of the EU-27 average).
Slovenian GDP per capita in PPS in 2020 amounted to 89% of the EU-27 average, which was the same value as in the previous year
The indicator GDP per capita in PPS is used to measure a country’s economic development. The positions of countries regarding GDP per capita in PPS, and also regarding AIC per capita in PPS are similar; however, the differences between countries are much bigger in the case of GDP per capita in PPS. According to this indicator, the first position among 37 European countries in 2019 belonged to Luxembourg (166% above the EU-27 average), followed by Ireland (111% above), Switzerland (60% above), Norway (42% above) and Denmark (36% above).
The countries with the lowest GDP per capita in PPS were Albania (69% below the EU-27 average) and Bosnia and Herzegovina (67% below).
Slovenian GDP per capita in PPS in 2020 amounted to 89% of the EU-27 average. From 2015 to 2019, Slovenia’s GDP per capita in PPS was increasing; however, in 2020 the value stayed the same as in the previous year.
Close to Slovenia in terms of GDP per capita in PPS in 2020 were Cyprus and Lithuania (each 87% of the EU-27 average).
