Livestock slaughter in slaughterhouses, Slovenia, October 2020

In October 2020, more horses and cattle slaughtered than in the previous month
Compared to the previous month, the number of horses slaughtered in Slovene slaughterhouses in October 2020 increased by about 21% (i.e. about 20 animals) and of cattle by about 17% (i.e. about 2.000 animals). On the other hand, the number of slaughtered sheep decreased by about 30% (i.e. about 200 animals), of pigs by about 9% (i.e. about 2,000 animals) and of poultry by about 3% (i.e. about 93,000 animals).

The total carcass weight of animals slaughtered in October 2020 more or less followed the trends in the number of animals slaughtered. At the monthly level, the total carcass weight of slaughtered cattle increased by exactly 15% (weight difference of about 477,000 kg) and of horses by about 15% (weight difference of about 3,000 kg). On the other hand, the total carcass weight of sheep decreased by about 33% (weight difference of about 4,000 kg), of pigs by about 3% (weight difference of about 57,000 kg) and of poultry by about 1% (weight difference of about 31,000 kg).


In October 2020, more cattle slaughtered in Slovene slaughterhouses than in October 2019
Compared to October 2019, the number of cattle slaughtered in Slovene slaughterhouses in October 2020 went up by about 2%, while the number of sheep went down by about 37%, of pigs by about 10%, of horses by about 7% and of poultry by about 1%.

Compared to October 2019, the total weight of dressed carcasses of cattle slaughtered in October 2020 went up by about 2%, while the total weight of dressed carcasses of sheep went down by about 42%, of pigs by about 5%,  of horses by about 4% and of poultry by about 1%.


In October 2020, we recorded slaughter of 17 cattle imported from Croatia and Italy. The total weight of dressed carcass was about 5 tons. There was no record of slaughter of imported pigs or poultry in October 2020 in Slovene slaughterhouses.
