Total output of the environmental goods and services sector in 2018 10.2% higher than in 2017
The environmental goods and services sector employed 28,176 full-time equivalents and generated EUR 2.01 billion of total output in 2018.
Total output of the environmental goods and services sector amounted to EUR 2.01 billion in 2018, which is 10.2% more than in 2017.
The largest share of total output was generated by production activities (EUR 977.3 million or 48.5%). The output of producers specialised for environmental services that are registered in water supply, sewerage, waste management and remediation amounted to EUR 219.1 million or 10.9% of total output. The share of the public sector, which contributed EUR 90 million to total output, was 4.5%.
EUR 1,167.7 million or 58% of total output was generated by production of goods and services for environmental protection and EUR 845.8 million or 42% by resource management (e.g. renewable energy production, etc.).
In 2018, most of the environmental goods and services were produced in the environmental domain management of energy resources (40.8%), followed by production of these goods and services in the environmental domains waste management (18.2%), protection of ambient air and climate (14.7%) and wastewater management (13.3%).
Exports in 2018 higher than in 2017
In 2018, exports in the environmental goods and services sector amounted to EUR 779.4 million, which is 4.6% more than in 2017. 86.6% of the value came from production activities and 13.1% from specialised environmental activities (mostly export of non-hazardous waste for additional processing or recycling).
Employment in 2018 4.9% higher than in 2017
