On 1 January 2021, Slovenia's population was 2,108,977 or 0.6% more than one year earlier

The number of Slovene citizens increased by 800, and the number of foreign citizens by 12,300 in 2020. On 1 January 2021, 8% of the 2,108,977 usually resident population of Slovenia were foreigners.

More citizens of Slovenia, more foreign citizens

The population of Slovenia increased by 13,116 in 2020. The number of citizens of Slovenia increased by just over 800, while the number of foreign citizens increased by 12,300. The share of foreign citizens in the population was 8.0% on 1 January 2021.

Increased share of women among foreign citizens

On 1 January 2021, the population of Slovenia consisted of 1,059,938 men and 1,049,039 women. The share of women among citizens of Slovenia was 51.1% (this share has been slowly decreasing for a number of years) and among foreign citizens 34.2% (after more than two years of decrease, their share has been increasing since 1 April 2020).
