Domestic production and consumption affected the level of self-sufficiency
Domestic production of cereals exceeded 640,000 tonnes in the observed year, it was 8% higher than in the previous year. Domestic consumption slightly decreased and reached around 857,000 tonnes. Due to the more extensive production and slightly lower consumption, the level of self-sufficiency in cereals increased in 2019 compared to the previous year, but it was still relatively low, ie. 75-percent.
Total fruits production reached 89,000 tonnes in 2019, which was half time lower than in the previous year due to the less favorable weather conditions. Domestic consumption decreased in comparison with the previous year and reached around 300,000 tonnes in 2019, therefore the level of self-sufficiency was much lower than in the previous year, ie. only 30%.
