Especially low self-sufficiency rates in fruits, vegetables, honey and potato
Especially low rates of self-sufficiency were shown by the crop supply balance sheets in 2019: it was only 30% for fruits, for vegetables it reached 43%, for honey 44%, and for potato 47%. Self-sufficiency rates were higher in supply balance sheet for cereals (75%) and in animal supply balance sheets: for meat it reached 81% and for eggs 95%.

Domestic production and consumption affected the level of self-sufficiency
Domestic production of cereals exceeded 640,000 tonnes in the observed year, it was 8% higher than in the previous year. Domestic consumption slightly decreased and reached around 857,000 tonnes. Due to the more extensive production and slightly lower consumption, the level of self-sufficiency in cereals increased in 2019 compared to the previous year, but it was still relatively low, ie. 75-percent.

Total fruits production reached 89,000 tonnes in 2019, which was half time lower than in the previous year due to the less favorable weather conditions. Domestic consumption decreased in comparison with the previous year and reached around 300,000 tonnes in 2019, therefore the level of self-sufficiency was much lower than in the previous year, ie. only 30%.

Higher per capita consumption of vegetables, lower for cereals, meat, potato and honey
In 2019, the average Slovenian citizen consumed the most cereals (120 kg) and vegetables (118 kg), and also 91 kg of meat, 75 kg of fresh fruits, 62 kg of potato, 12 kg of eggs, 5 kg of rice and almost 1 kg of honey. Compared to 2018, per capita consumption somewhat increased in vegetables, eggs and rice, but decreased slightly in other agricultural product groups.
