In 2019, enterprises with 10 or more persons employed generated EUR 780 million with web sales to private customers

21% of enterprises with 10 or more persons employed generated in 2019 turnover with web sales: 15% via their own website or a website of the parent enterprise and 8% via e-marketplaces. 77% of enterprises in accommodation activities generated turnover with reservations via e-marketplaces.

In the first quarter of 2020, 77% of 16–74-years-olds searched for information about goods or services over the Internet (70% in 2019). 63% made in the period of the last 12 months (before interviewing) at least one purchase online (56% in 2019) and in the period of the last 3 months 52% (45% in 2019). 

The websites allow enterprises to generate turnover with the sale of products or services, receipt of orders or reservations via their own website or a website of the parent enterprise, via extranet and e-commerce marketplaces – websites used by several enterprises for trading products or services, e.g. platform for online reservations. 81% of enterprises with 10 or more persons employed have a website and 18% provide the possibility of online ordering, reservation or booking on the website. Regarding the enterprise activity, 77% of enterprises in manufacturing activities have a website and 11% provide the possibility of online ordering, reservation or booking and 84% of enterprises in service activities have a website and 26% provide the possibility of online ordering, reservation or booking. 


The share of enterprises that generated turnover with web sales the same as in the previous year

21% of enterprises with 10 or more persons employed generated in 2019 turnover with web sales, receiving orders for products or services, reservations via websites, which is the same as in 2018. Regarding the enterprise size (number of persons employed), 20% of small enterprises (the same as in 2018), 22% of medium-sized enterprises (21% in 2018) and 31% of large enterprises (the same as in 2018) generated turnover with web sales.  

15% of enterprises generated turnover with web sales via their own website or a website of the parent enterprise, via extranet: 14% of small, 16% of medium-sized and 29% of large enterprises. 8% of enterprises generated turnover with web sales with sales via e-marketplaces: 8% of small and medium-sized enterprises and 6% of large enterprises. 


In 2019, enterprises generated around EUR 780 million with web sales to private consumers

Enterprises with 10 or more persons employed generated 4.6% of their turnover (excluding VAT) with web sales in Slovenia in 2019 (2.4% in 2018). Small enterprises generated 3.5%, medium-sized enterprises 8.9% and large enterprises 2.3% of their turnover (excluding VAT) with web sales.

In 2019, enterprises generated with web sales around EUR 3,800 million of their turnover (excluding VAT). 21% of the total turnover was generated by small, 58% by medium-sized and 21% by large enterprises. The majority of the turnover generated with web sales (excluding VAT) was generated by enterprises in 2019 with web sales to other enterprises or public authorities (80%) and 20% with web sales to private consumers, which represents around EUR 780 million (around EUR 657 million in 2018).

91% of the turnover generated with web sales (excluding VAT) was generated with web sales via own website or a website of the parent enterprise, via extranet and 9% via e-marketplaces.  

In 2019, enterprises generated 55% of their turnover (excluding VAT) with web sales in Slovenia, 37% with web sales to other EU Member States and 8% with web sales to the rest of the world.


Web sales via e-marketplaces most important for small enterprises

8% of enterprises with 10 or more persons employed generated turnover with web sales via e-marketplaces (websites used by several enterprises for web sales), e.g. Booking, Bolha, TimoCom, eBay. 6% of enterprises generated turnover with web sales via one e-marketplace, 1% via two e-marketplaces and the same share via more than two e-marketplaces.  

In 2019, enterprises generated with web sales via e-marketplaces around EUR 347 million of their turnover (excluding VAT). 65% of the turnover was generated by small, 29% by medium-sized and 6% by large enterprises.  

Web sales via e-marketplaces are the most important for enterprises active in accommodation activity (I 55 of NACE Rev. 2). In 2019, 77% of enterprises in this activity generated turnover with reservation received via e-marketplaces (22% of enterprises via one e-marketplace, 12% via two e-marketplaces and 44% via more than two e-marketplaces). These enterprises generated with reservation received via e-marketplaces 9% of their turnover and via their own website 5% of their turnover (excluding VAT). 


Enterprises in retail trade, except of motor vehicles and motorcycles doubled the value of turnover generated with web sales

In 2019, 37% of enterprises with 10 or more persons employed received orders, reservations via websites in trade, repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles activity (G 45–47 of NACE Rev. 2) (35% in 2018). 36% had web sales via their own website or a website of the parent enterprise, via extranet and 3% via e-marketplaces. Enterprises generated with web sales 8.7% of their turnover (excluding VAT) or around EUR 2,530 million. The majority of this turnover was generated with web sales to other enterprises or public authorities (83%) and 17% with web sales to private consumers. 
 
In retail trade, except of motor vehicles and motorcycles (G 47 of NACE Rev. 2) 44% of enterprises with 10 or more persons employed generated turnover with web sales in 2019 (36% in 2018); 43% via their own website or a website of the parent enterprise, via extranet and 5% via e-marketplaces. These enterprises generated with web sales 3.1% of their turnover (excluding VAT) or around EUR 449 million (EUR 222 million in 2018). 89% of this turnover was generated with sales to final customers and 11% with web sales to other enterprises or public authorities.
