In July 2020, the number of persons in employment 0.2% lower than in June 2020

In July 2020, there were about 882,800 persons in employment in Slovenia or 0.2% fewer than in June 2020. In July 2020, 11.5% of persons in employment in Slovenia (excluding farmers) were foreign citizens. Their number increased, while the number of employed citizens of Slovenia decreased.

In July 2020 the number of persons in employment decreased 

Compared to June 2020, the number of persons in employment in July 2020 decreased by 0.2% (to about 882,800) and compared to July 2019 by 1.2%. The number of persons in paid employment decreased by 0.2% (or by about 1,400, to about 788,900), while the number of self-employed persons decreased only slightly (to about 94,000). Compared to July 2019, in July 2020 the number of persons in paid employment decreased by 1.7%, while the number of self-employed persons increased by 3.3%.

The number of women in employment decreased more than the number of men in employment (the former by 0.2%, to about 397,400, the latter by 0.1%, to about 485,400). In July 2020, the number of persons in employment in the age group 25-29 decreased the most on a monthly basis (by more than 500, to about 81,000).

The overview by activities shows that the number of persons in employment in July 2020, compared to June 2020, decreased in eleven and increased in nine activities. At the monthly level, the number of persons in employment decreased the most in manufacturing, i.e. by 0.6% (to 200,100). In this activity, the largest decline in persons in employment was recorded for the fourth month in a row. In July 2020, on a monthly basis, the number of persons in employment increased the most in construction, i.e. by 0.8% (to about 65,400).

In July 2020, 11.5% of persons in employment were foreign citizens

In July 2020, compared to June 2020, the number of persons in employment (excluding farmers) who are foreign citizens increased by 0.3% (by more than 300, to more than 98,800, which is 11.5% of all persons in employment), while the number of employed citizens of Slovenia decreased.

Compared to July 2015, in July 2020 the number of persons in employment who are foreign citizens increased by 71.5%. Most of the foreign citizens were employed in construction (around 27,700 or 55.4% more than in the same period five years ago). In July 2020, 15.2% of foreign citizens in employment were citizens of other EU Member States (23.1% more than in the same period five years ago), and 84.8% were citizens of other countries (84.5% more than in the same period five years ago). Farmers are not included in these data.
