In Slovenia in 2019 more than 21.9 million tonnes of goods were carried by train
The railway goods transport increased again in Slovenia in 2019. More than 21.9 million tonnes of goods were carried by train and 5,292 million tonne-kilometres were performed.
The railway network in the Republic of Slovenia consists of 1,209 km of railway lines, of which 330 km of lines are double tracks and 610 km are electrified. In 2019, Slovenian Railways possesed 296 tractive vehicles, 144 of them were locomotives, 152 railcars, 348 passenger vehicles and 2,692 freight wagons, which is 2% less than in 2018. There were 238 freight wagons in private property, which is 5% less than in 2018.
Rail goods transport
In 2019 more than 21.9 million tonnes of goods were carried by train and almost 5,292 million tonne-kilometres were performed. Compared with 2018, the railway goods transport expressed in tonnes and in tonne-kilometres increased by 3%. 86% of goods were carried in international transport, including transit.
Considering the type of goods, most of the so-called other goods (unidentifiable goods in containers and a mixture of types of goods) were carried by train (36%, expressed in tonnes, and 41.3%, expressed in tonne-kilometres). These were followed by goods classified within mining and quarrying (18.8% or 16.5%, respectively). The third most carried type of goods were coal, gas, petrol and refined products. These represented 18.2% when expressed in tonnes, and 16.9% when expressed in tonne-kilometres.
In 2019 more than 1.7 million tonnes of dangerous goods were carried by train, which is 5% less than in 2018. Flammable liquids still represent the largest share, accounting for 91% of all dangerous goods carried.
