In 2018, the ICT sector in Slovenia generated around EUR 4,139 million of turnover and around EUR 1,434 million of value added. In 2018, 27,759 persons were employed in the ICT sector.

In the SiStat Database we are publishing detailed data about the performance of the ICT sector in 2018. ICT sector enterprises are engaged in the production of information-communication technologies (ICT manufacturing sector) or provision of ICT services (service ICT sector) and thereby provide infrastructure for the performance and development of the digital society. 


In 2018 faster growth of persons employed in the ICT manufacturing sector

In 2018, 27,759 persons were employed in the ICT sector or 6% more than in 2017. As in the previous year, they represented 4.2% of all persons employed by all enterprises active in predominantly market activities. In the ICT manufacturing sector the number of persons employed increased by 10% and in the service ICT sector by 5%.

Enterprises in the ICT sector allocated in 2018 around EUR 665 million for wages and salaries, which is 9% more than in 2017. Enterprises in activity J62 – Computer programming, consultancy and related activities allocated more than half of the entire amount of the ICT sector for wages and salaries (55%) and enterprises in activity J61 – Telecommunications 21%. 


Enterprises in the ICT sector generated 4% more turnover than in the previous year

Enterprises in the ICT sector generated in 2018 around EUR 4,139 million of turnover, which is 4% more than in 2017. This turnover represented 4.0% of the turnover generated by all enterprises active in predominantly market activities.
  
33% of the turnover of the ICT sector was generated by enterprises in activity J61 – Telecommunications and 35% in activity J62 – Information technology service activities. Enterprises in activity G46.5 – Wholesale of information and communication equipment generated 15% of the total turnover of the ICT sector or around EUR 635 million or 1% less than in the previous year. 


Enterprises in the ICT sector generated 4% more value added than in the previous year

In 2018 enterprises in the ICT sector generated around EUR 1,434 million of value added or 4% more than in the previous year. This value added represented around 5.9% of value added generated by all enterprises active in predominantly market activities in 2018.

As in 2017 the largest share, 47% of the generated value added of the sector ICT, was generated by enterprises in activity J62 – Computer programming, consultancy and related activities; 31% was generated by enterprises in activity J61 – Telecommunications.

According to the OECD definition, the ICT sector comprises enterprises that are engaged in the production or provision of services of information-communication technologies and are registered in the following NACE Rev. 2 activities: manufacturing ICT sector (C26.1 – Manufacture of electronic components and boards, C26.2 – Manufacture of computers and peripheral equipment, C26.3 – Manufacture of communication equipment, C26.4 – Manufacture of consumer electronics, C26.8 – Manufacture of magnetic and optical media), service ICT sector (G46.5 – Wholesale of information and communication equipment, J58.2 – Software publishing, J61 – Telecommunications, J62 – Computer programming, consultancy and related activities, J63.1 – Data processing, hosting and related activities; web portals, S95.1 – Repair of computers and communication equipment).
