Improvement of the confidence indicators in all economic activities

In June 2020 the confidence indicators improved in all economic activities.

Manufacturing confidence indicator higher

In June 2020 the manufacturing confidence indicator was 5 percentage points (p.p.) higher than in May 2020. Compared to June 2019 it was lower by 17 p.p. It was also 21 p.p. below the long-term average.

At the monthly level all situation and expectation indicators improved, only the stocks of finished products indicator deteriorated (by 8 p.p.) and the selling price expectations indicator stayed the same. The production indicator and the expected export order books indicator improved the most (by 23 and 20 p.p., respectively).

Retail trade confidence indicator higher

In June 2020 the retail trade confidence indicator was 18 p.p. higher than in May 2020. Compared to June 2019, it was 21 p.p. lower and 17 p.p. below the long-term average.

The values of the situation and expectation indicators increased, except the selling prices, the sales and the expected employment indicators. The expected sales indicator improved the most and had the greatest impact on the increase in the confidence indicator.

Construction confidence indicator higher

In June 2020 the construction confidence indicator was 12 p.p. higher than in May 2020 and 25 p.p. lower than in June 2019. It was also 2 p.p. below the long-term average.

At the monthly level all situation and expectation indicators improved. The business situation indicator and the order books expectations indicator improved the most (by 31 and 17 p.p., respectively).

Services confidence indicator higher

In June 2020 the services confidence indicator was 10 p.p. higher than in May 2020. Compared to June 2019, it was 48 p.p. lower and 39 p.p. below the long-term average.

Situation indicators (demand, employment and business situation) deteriorated and reached new lowest values in the entire observation period. Expectations indicators improved for the second consecutive month. The expected demand indicator improved the most and had the greatest impact on the increase in the confidence indicator.
