In April 2020 the largest drop in service turnover so far
The restrictions in force in service activities during the coronavirus epidemic in April 2020 led to the largest drop in turnover from the sale of services so far. Turnover was even lower than in the previous month; at the monthly level by 19.5% and at the annual level by as much as 30.3%.
In April 2020, at the monthly level the largest drop of turnover from the sale of services so far
In April 2020 turnover from the sale of services was 19.5% lower than in the previous month, which is the largest monthly drop in turnover in the entire observed period (from January 2000). Turnover decreased in all observed groups of service activities, most notably in those which due to government measures in April 2020 were not allowed to carry out their activities. The coronavirus epidemic completely paralyzed accommodation and food service activities, in which turnover fell by as much as 70.5% at the monthly level in April 2020. It was significantly lower both in accommodation (by 79.5%) and in food and beverage service activities (by 65.9%). Large drops in turnover were also recorded in professional, scientific and technical activities (by 24.3%) and in administrative and support service activities (by 22.5%), mainly due to a sharp fall in turnover in the activities of travel agencies (by 83.5%). Turnover was lower also in all other groups of service activities: in transportation and storage activities by 16.2%, in real estate business by 9.6% and in information and communication activities by 4.0%.
The largest drop of turnover from the sale of services so far also at the annual level
Turnover from the sale of services was also lower at the annual level. In April 2020 compared to April 2019 it was lower by as much as 30.3%, which was the largest decline at the annual level in service turnover in the entire observed period. As at the monthly level, also at the annual level the epidemic affected the most accommodation and food service activities. Compared to the same month last year, turnover decreased by 86.5% and was the lowest the entire observed period. It was significantly lower also in administrative and support service activities (by 40.6%), mainly due to a distinctly lower turnover in travel agencies. In these activities it was lower by as much as 95.5%. Turnover dropped also in transport and storage activities (by 27.4%), which was mainly due to the sharp drop in land passenger transport, which in April completely stopped. In professional, scientific and technical activities it was lower by 25.6% and in real estate activities by 18.6%.The least affected by the epidemic were information and communication activities, in which turnover was lower by 7.4%.
