Registered road motor vehicles and trailers, Slovenia, 2019

2% more motor vehicles and 5% more trailing vehicles registered than in 2018
According to data from the central Register of Vehicles and Traffic Documents, at the end of 2019 almost 1,608,000 road vehicles were registered in Slovenia, which is 2% more than at the end of 2018. There were over 1,555,000 motor vehicles or 2% more than at the end of 2018, and almost 53,000 trailing vehicles or 5% more than at the end of 2018. In the same comparison there were 2% more passenger cars; at the end of 2018 over 1,165,000 passenger cars were registered, representing 75% of all motor vehicles.

About the same number of motor vehicles registered for the first time in Slovenia as in 2018
In 2019 almost 146,000 road vehicles were registered in Slovenia for the first time. Compared to 2018 the number was about the same. The same is true of motor vehicles, while compared to 2018, there were 3% fewer trailing vehicles registered for the first time in Slovenia in 2019. About 107,000 passenger cars were registered for the first time or 1% fewer than in 2018.

2% fewer new passenger cars registered for the first time in Slovenia
In 2019 almost 102,000 or 70% of all first-time registered road vehicles were new, i.e. they had not been registered abroad before. The number of first-time registered new road vehicles in 2019 decreased by 1% compared to 2018. The number of first registrations of new passenger cars decreased by 2%.
 
In Slovenia in 2019 a third more first registrations of new electric passenger cars
At the end of 2019, 50% of registered passenger cars were using diesel and 49% petrol. Compared to 2018, the number of petrol cars remained at the same annual level, while the number of diesel cars increased by 4%.
The number of hybrid passenger cars increased by 48% and exceeded 6,800.
The number of electric passenger cars increased by 53% and reached almost 2,000 vehicles. The number of first registrations of new electric passenger cars increased in one year by 33%.

One in eight registered passenger cars in Slovenia in 2019 was under three years old, and one in two was 12 or more years old
The same is true of motorcycles. In 2019 one in five registered buses and one in four registered lorries in Slovenia was under three years old. One in four registered buses and one in three registered lorries was 12 or more years old.

At the end of 2019, about 153,000 registered passenger cars in the municipality of Ljubljana
One in four passenger cars was registered in the Osrednjeslovenska statistical region, one in seven in Podravska and one in eight in Savinjska. One in eight passenger cars was registered in the municipality of Ljubljana.

Most lorries and trailers with Slovene license plates had the lowest load capacity, while most semi-trailers had the highest load capacity
According to register data, at the end of 2019 over 99,000 lorries and special lorries, over 25,000 trailers and almost 13,000 semi-trailers were registered in Slovenia. Most of the lorries and trailers had the lowest load capacity (48% and 55%, respectively), while almost all semi-trailers (98%) had the highest load capacity of 20 tonnes and over.
