In January 2020, the most foreign tourists from Croatia and Italy
The number of tourist arrivals increased by 8% compared to January 2019, while the number of tourist overnight stays increased by around 4%. The most overnight stays among foreign tourists were generated by tourists from Croatia (21%) and Italy (19%).
More tourist arrivals and overnight stays in January 2020 than in January 2019
In January 2020, tourist accommodation establishments in Slovenia recorded almost 286,000 tourist arrivals and around 789,000 overnight stays. Domestic tourists generated almost 97,000 arrivals (8% more than in January 2019) and just over 283,000 overnight stays (6% more than in January 2019). There were almost 189,000 arrivals of foreign tourists (8% more than in January 2019) and almost 506,000 overnight stays (3% more than in January 2019). Foreign tourists generated 64% of all tourist overnight stays.
The most foreign tourists from Croatia and Italy
In January 2020 the key markets, from which the most foreign tourists with the most overnight stays in Slovenia came, were Croatia (21% or around 104,000 overnight stays), Italy (19%), Austria (9%), Serbia (6%), Bosnia and Herzegovina (5%), and Germany (4%).
Compared to January 2019, the number of overnight stays increased in case of tourists from Germany (by 23%), Bosnia and Herzegovina (by 15%), Austria (by 14%), Serbia (by 11%) and Italy (by 7%) and it decreased in case of tourists from Croatia (by 11%).
Health (spa) resorts with the most tourist overnight stays
In January 2020 the highest number of tourist overnight stays (33% or 260,000) was recorded in health (spa) resorts, followed by mountain resorts (29% of all overnight stays). 14% of all overnight stays were generated in municipality Ljubljana, in urban municipalities 9% and in seaside resorts 8%.
Compared to January 2019, the number of overnight stays increased in almost all types of tourist resorts. The highest increase was recorded in municipality Ljubljana (by 15%). This was followed by urban municipalities (by 7%), seaside resorts (by 6%) and health (spa) resorts (by 5%). The number of overnight stays decreased in mountain resorts (by 2%).
The most overnight stays in hotels
The highest number of overnight stays was recorded in hotels (58% or almost 454,000, which is 3% more than in January 2019). Hotels were followed by private rooms, apartments and dwellings (19% of all overnight stays or 4% more than in January 2019), and by apartment settlements (5% of all overnight stays or 9% more than in January 2019).
