Confidence in manufacturing and retail trade higher than in the previous month

The confidence indicators in manufacturing and retail trade were in February 2020 higher than in the previous month.

Manufacturing confidence indicator higher than in the previous month

In February 2020, the manufacturing confidence indicator was 2 percentage points (p.p.) higher than in the previous month and 2 p.p. lower than in February 2019. After six months, the indicator was again above the long-term average (by 1 p.p.).

The stocks of finished products and the overall order books indicators improved (by 5 p.p. and 3 p.p., respectively) and thus had a positive influence on the confidence indicator. The production expectation indicator deteriorated (by 3 p.p.).

Retail trade confidence indicator higher than in the previous month

In February 2020 the retail trade confidence indicator was 20 p.p. higher than in January 2020. Compared to February 2019, it was 17 p.p. higher and 20 p.p. above the long-term average. The improvement of the confidence indicator was influenced by both the expected sales indicator and the volume of stocks indicator.

Indicators of situation deteriorated, except the volume of stocks indicator, which improved. Expectations indicators improved, except the selling prices expectation indicator.

Construction confidence indicator a bit lower than in the previous month

In February 2020 the construction confidence indicator was 1 p.p. lower than in January 2020. Compared to February 2019, it was 10 p.p. lower and 19 p.p. above the long-term average.

The values of both the situation and expectation indicators increased, while the expected employment indicator and the prices indicator decreased. The indicator of overall order books remained stable.

Services confidence indicator a bit lower than in the previous month

In February 2020 the services confidence indicator was 1 p.p. lower than in January 2020. Compared to February 2019, it was 6 p.p. lower and 7 p.p. above the long-term average.

The employment indicator increased by 4 p.p., while expectations about employment decreased by 2 p.p. Expectations about selling prices remained the same as in the previous month.
