1.2% less cows’ milk collected in 2019 than in the previous year
Almost 564,000 tons of cows’ milk were collected from agricultural holdings in 2019. Dairies increased the production of acidified milk products, while the production of drinking milk, butter and cheese decreased compared to 2018.
Less milk collected from farms
Almost 564,000 tons of milk were collected from agricultural holdings in 2019 (1.2% less than in 2018). For the fourth year in a row the share of milk collected by Slovene dairies increased; almost 405,000 tons of milk were collected, 2.6% more than in the previous year.
In 2019, too, drinking milk production decreased (by more than 2%)
For the second consecutive year Slovene dairies produced less drinking milk than in the previous year. In 2019, more than 164,000 tons of drinking milk were produced. This was 3,600 tons less than in 2018.
Stable production of cream in the last six years
In the last six years dairies produced slightly more than 12,000 tons of cream each year. In 2019 they produced almost 12,200 tons of cream, just slightly more than in the previous year.
For the fourth consecutive year an increase in the production of acidified milk
In 2019 the production of acidified milk continued to increase. More than 45,000 tons of acidified milk were produced. Compared to the previous year production increased by almost 1,300 tons (by almost 3%).
Compared to 2018, butter production down by almost 4%
Dairies produced almost 100 tons of butter less than in the previous year. Total production of butter and other yellow fat dairy products (in butter equivalent) amounted to more than 2,500 tons and was almost 4% lower than in 2018. Butter production decreased for the second consecutive year.
Dairies also produced less cheese than in 2018
Slovene dairies produced more than 400 tons less cheese than in the previous year. The total quantity of cheese produced in 2019 was more than 16,100 tons, which was almost 3% less than in the previous year. Cheese production decreased by a third over the last 16 years.
Production of milk powder increased in 2019
Milk powder production increased by almost 51% compared to 2018. Despite this increase it remains significantly lower than in the period before 2014.
