The number of occupied post increased in the fourth quarter 2019

In the fourth quarter of 2019, the number of occupied posts increased again, while the number of job vacancies was lower by 475 as in the previous quarter. The job vacancy rate was 2.2%, the same as in the previous quarter.

Supply of job vacancies in the fourth quarter of 2019 slightly lower as in the previous quarter

In the fourth quarter of 2019, slightly more than 17,300 job vacancies were recorded in Slovenia, which is  475 fewer than in the previous quarter.

Demand for new labour force decreased the most in trade activities, where almost 400 fewer job vacancies were advertised than in the previous quarter.

More than half of job vacancies were recorded in manufacturing, construction and trade; in all three activities together more than 54% of all job vacancies were advertised, while the share of occupied posts in these three activities was 46%.

In the observed quarter, employers with 10 or more persons in paid employment advertised almost 11,000 job vacancies, which was 63.5% of all job vacancies in Slovenia. On the other hand, these employers had 81.4% of all occupied posts.

The number of occupied posts increased in this quarter too

Seasonally adjusted data show that the number of occupied posts has been increasing since the second quarter of 2014. In the fourth quarter of 2019 around 778,500 posts were occupied, 5,100 more than in the previous quarter.

This quarter there were around 980 more occupied posts in construction and around 960 more in manufactoring, compared to the previous quarter.

Job vacancy rate remains the same

In the fourth quarter of 2019 the job vacancy rate was 2.2%, the same as in the previous quarter. Compared to the same quarter of 2018 it decreased by 0.3 of a percentage point. In this quarter the job vacancy rate was the highest in construction (6.1%) and the lowest in public administration and defence (0.3%).

How did 2019 end in terms of job vacancies and occupied posts?

Compared to the previous year, 2019 ended with:
- 2,100 less job vacancies (almost 1,300 at employers with 10 or more persons in paid employment),
- 16,600 more occupied posts (13,900 at employers with 10 or more persons in paid employment),
- a 0.3 of a percentage point lower job vacancy rate,
- more than 63% of all job vacancies in Slovenia were advertised by employers with 10 or more persons in paid employment and
- more than 81% of all occupied post in Slovenia were by employers with 10 or more persons in paid employment.
