In the last month of the summer season almost 1.5 million tourist overnight stays
Almost 623,000 arrivals and almost 1.5 million overnight stays were recorded in tourist accommodation establishments in September 2019. Compared to September 2018, the number of arrivals was up by 3% and of overnight stays down by 4%. Foreign tourists generated 77% of all overnight stays.
622,739 tourist arrivals and more than 1.4 million tourist overnight stays were recorded in Slovenia in September 2019. Domestic tourists generated more than 122,000 arrivals or about the same as in September 2018 and more than 331,000 overnight stays or 5% fewer than in September 2018. Foreign tourists generated more than 500,000 arrivals or 3% more than in September 2018 and more than 1.1 million overnight stays or 4% fewer than in September 2018. Foreign tourists generated 77% of all overnight stays.
The most foreign tourists from Germany
In September 2019 the key markets, from which the most foreign tourists with the most overnight stays in Slovenia came, were Germany (20% or almost 227,000 overnight stays), Austria (9%), Italy (7%), the United Kingdom (5%) and Czechia (4%).
Compared to September 2018, the number of overnight stays increased the most for tourists from Germany (by 13%), followed by tourists from Czechia (by 5%). On the other hand, the number of overnight stays decreased for tourists from Austria, Italy and the United Kingdom.
Fewer overnight stays in almost all types of tourist resorts
In September 2019 the highest number of tourist overnight stays (30% or more than 433,000) was recorded in mountain resorts, followed by seaside resorts (22%), health (spa) resorts (17%), and municipality Ljubljana (16%).
Compared to September 2018, the number of overnight stays decreased in almost all types of tourist resorts. In mountain resorts by 6%, in health (spa) resorts by 5% and in municipality Ljubljana by 2%. Only in seaside resorts the number of overnight stays stayed about the same as in September 2018.
Almost 680,000 overnight stays in hotels
The highest number of overnight stays was recorded in hotels (47% or more than 678,000) and in private rooms, apartments and dwellings (21%), but dropped in both compared to September 2018 (by 5% in the former and by 6% in the latter). The two were followed by camping sites (12% of all overnight stays or 3% more than in September 2018).
Compared to September 2018, the number of overnight stays increased the most in overnight accommodations (by 27%), which recorded around 43,000 overnight stays in September 2019.
Up to the end of September over 13 million overnight stays
In the first nine months of 2019, tourists generated more than 5.1 million arrivals and more than 13.2 million overnight stays or 6% more arrivals and 2% more overnight stays than in the same period of the previous year.
