September exports and imports of Slovenia in 2019 higher than in 2018

In September 2019, Slovenia exported EUR 2,963.1 million and imported EUR 2,934.1 million of goods. In comparison with September 2018, growth was recorded in both trade flows and with both groups of countries. In the first nine months of 2019 combined, the export/import ratio was 99.9%.

In September 2019, Slovenia exported EUR 2,963.1 million and imported EUR 2,934.1 million of goods. Compared with September 2018 exports grew by 15.2% and imports by 13.6%.

In external trade in goods in September 2019 Slovenia generated a surplus of EUR 29.0 million. The export/import ratio was 101.0%.

Growth of external trade in goods with both groups of countries


Slovenia’s exports to the EU Member States in September 2019 amounted to EUR  2,110.1  million and imports from them to EUR  2,143.7  million. Compared with September 2018 exports to EU Member States grew by 5.5% and imports from them by 8.6%. Trade with Germany, our main trade partner country, remained approximately the same as in September 2018.The growth of trade with this group of countries was most affected by increased exports to Croatia and France and increased imports from Italy and Austria.

Growth of trade in goods was recorded also in trade with EU non-member countries, to which  Slovenia exported EUR 853.0 million in September 2019 and imported EUR 790.4 million from them. In comparison with September 2018 exports grew by 49.0% and imports by 29.6%. High annual growth of trade with this group of countries was most affected by growth of trade with Switzerland, which was our most important trade partner country outside of the EU in September 2019. Also significant were increases of exports to Serbia and Russia and imports from Turkey and China compared with September 2018.

In the first nine months of 2019 combined the values of Slovenia’s exports and imports were almost perfectly balanced


In the period from January to September 2019, Slovenia exported EUR 25,108.2 million and imported EUR 25,143.5 million of goods. Compared with the same period of 2018 exports grew by 9.6% and imports by 11.8%.

In the first nine months of 2019 combined a deficit of EUR 35.2 million was generated in external trade in goods. The export/import ratio was 99.9%.
