The economic sentiment continues to decline

In October 2019 the sentiment indicator was 0.7 p.p. lower at the monthly level and 7.5 p.p. lower at the annual level.

Sentiment indicator deteriorated at the monthly level

In October 2019 the value of the sentiment indicator (at 4.0 percentage points – p.p.) decreased by 0.7 p.p. compared to September 2019 (at 4.7 p.p.).

The monthly decrease in the sentiment indicator was influenced by a decrease in the confidence indicator among consumers (by 0.3 p.p.), also the confidence indicator in construction (by 0.2 p.p.) and the confidence indicator in services (by 0.1 p.p.). The confidence indicator in manufacturing and retail trade had no impact.

Sentiment indicator deteriorated also at the annual level

The sentiment indicator decreased by 7.5 p.p. at the annual level.

The manufacturing confidence indicator had the largest impact (by 4.3 p.p.) on the deterioration of the sentiment indicator at the annual level. The sentiment indicators in services, among consumers and in construction also had a negative impact (by 1.3, 1.2 and 0.7 p.p., respectively), while in retail trade there was no impact on the deterioration of the sentiment indicator.

The sentiment indicator is the weighted average of the confidence indicators in manufacturing, retail trade, construction, services and the consumer confidence indicator.

Data are seasonally adjusted.

In January 2016, methodological changes were implemented in the Consumer Survey and these can have an impact on the value of the sentiment indicator.
