In the last five years employment in human health activities up by 16%

In July 2019 the number of persons in employment decreased by 0.4% over the previous month. Compared to July 2018 it increased by 2.5% (to about 893,800). Around 44,900 persons were employed in human health activities.

In July 2019 the number of persons in employment in Slovenia was about 893,800. Compared to the previous month it decreased by 0.4% and compared to July 2018 it increased by 2.5% (by about 22,100). At the monthly level the number of persons in paid employment decreased by 0.2% (to 802,700) and the number of self-employed persons by 1.7% (to 91,000).

Compared to the previous month, the number of men in employment decreased by 0.4% (to 492,800) and the number of women in employment also by 0.4% (to 401,000). 

The number of persons in employment decreased compared to June 2019 in all twelve statistical regions of employment. It decreased the most in the Pomurska and Zasavska statistical regions, i.e. by 1%, and the least in the Gorenjska statistical region, i.e. by 0.1%. Compared to July 2018 the number of persons in employment increased in all statistical regions of employment, the most in the Goriška statistical region (by 4.1%), followed by Gorenjska (by 3.0%).  

An overview by activities shows that compared to June 2019 the number of persons in employment in Slovenia in July 2019 increased in nine activities and decreased in eleven. Compared to July 2018, it decreased in five and increased in fifteen activities, the most in construction, by about 5,800 or by 9.8%, and in manufacturing, by about 5,200 or by 2.6%. 

In the last five years employment in human health activities up by 15.8%

In July 2019 approximately 44,900 persons were employed in human health activities. 96% of them were in paid employment and 4% were self-employed. 22% of them were men and 78% were women. 

57.3% or more than 25,700 of persons in employment in human health activities worked in hospital activities, 26% or almost 11,700 in general medical practice activities, 5.3% or almost 2,400 in specialist medical practice activities, 5% or almost 2,300 in dental practice activities and 6.4% or almost 2,900 in other human health activities. 



4% of persons in employment in human health activities had basic education or less, 39% had upper secondary education and 57% had tertiary education. The share of persons in employment with upper secondary education was the highest in hospital activities. The share of persons in employment with tertiary education was the highest in general medical practice activities.

Compared to June 2019 the number of persons in employment in human health activities decreased by almost 100 or by 0.1%. Compared to July 2018 it increased by almost 1,100 or by 2.4%. In the last five years the number of persons in employment in human health activities increased by more than 6,100 or by 15.8%, the most in specialist medical practice activities; i.e. by 23.2%.
