In the 3rd quarter of 2019 the total number of hours worked continued to increase in the year-on-year comparison

In Slovenia 3.6% more hours were worked in the 3rd quarter of 2019 than in the 3rd quarter of 2018 (due to more persons in paid employment and more working days). The highest average monthly number of hours in this period was worked by persons employed in agriculture, forestry and fishing.

In the 3rd quarter of 2019 the total number of hours worked continued to increase in the year-on-year comparison
In the 3rd quarter of 2019 the increase in the total number of hours worked in the year-on-year comparison continued. According to provisional data, in this quarter persons in paid employment in Slovenia worked 282.6 million hours, 3.6% more than in the same quarter of 2018. The total number of hours worked increased mainly due to more persons in paid employment and more working days.

The highest average monthly number of hours worked by persons employed in agriculture, forestry and fishing
In spite of the fact that in the 3rd quarter of 2019 there were fewer unpaid overtime hours worked than in the 3rd quarter of 2018, in the 3rd quarter of 2019 the average monthly number of hours worked by a person in paid employment in Slovenia increased by 0.8% compared to the same period of 2018. The main reason for this increase was more working days.

In the period July–September 2019 the largest number of hours was worked by persons employed in agriculture, forestry and fishing; on average 130 hours per month (or 10 hours more than the national average). Also, the share of hours worked in paid hours in this activity was the highest among all the activities; 78.8%.

On the other hand, the lowest number of hours in this period was worked by persons employed in education; on average 102 hours per month.

The largest increase in the total number of hours worked in construction
In the 3rd quarter of 2019 the largest increase in the total number of hours worked compared to the same period of 2018 was observed in construction (by 12.4%), followed by other service activities (by 12.2%), while the largest decrease was recorded in administrative and support service activities (by 1.8%). The main reason for changes in the total number of hours worked in all mentioned activities was the change in the number of persons in paid employment.

Similar observations as for the 3rd quarter of 2019 apply also for the period from the 1st quarter of 2019 to the 3rd quarter of 2019.
