683,000 arrivals and more than 1.65 million tourist overnight stays were recorded in accommodation establishments in June 2019. Compared to June 2018, the number of arrivals increased by 12% and that of overnight stays by 9%. Foreign tourists generated 74% of all tourist overnight stays.
More tourists than in June 2018
683,000 tourist arrivals and more than 1.65 million tourist overnight stays were recorded in Slovenia in June 2019. Domestic tourists generated more than 151,000 arrivals or 3% more than in June 2018 and 423,000 overnight stays or 2% less than in June 2018. Foreign tourists generated 532,000 arrivals or 15% more than in June 2018 and more than 1.2 million overnight stays or 12% more than in June 2018. Foreign tourists again generated over 74% of all overnight stays.
The most numerous are foreign tourists from Germany
In June 2019 the key markets, from which the most foreign tourists with the most overnight stays in Slovenia came, were Germany (19% or more than 232,000 overnight stays), Austria (9%), Italy (6%), the United Kingdom (5%) and Czechia (5%).
Compared to June 2018, the overnight stay increase was highest for German tourists (by 47%), followed by Austrian tourists (by 23%) and tourists from Czechia (by 20%). On the other hand the number of overnight stays decreased for tourists from Italy and the United Kingdom.
A third of all overnight stays recorded in mountain resorts
In June 2019 the highest number of tourist overnight stays (32% or almost 533,000) was recorded in mountain resorts, followed by seaside resorts (22%), health (spa) resorts (17%), and municipality Ljubljana (13%).
Compared to June 2018, the number of overnight stays increased in mountain resorts (by 21%), followed by municipality Ljubljana (by 10%) and then seaside resorts (by 6%); it dropped in health (spa) resorts.
More than 700,000 overnight stays in hotels
The highest number of overnight stays was recorded in hotels (42% or almost 702,000), followed by private rooms, apartments and dwellings (21%) and camping sites (17%).
Compared to June 2018, the number of overnight stays in camping sites increased the most (by 26%), followed by private rooms, apartments and dwellings (by 15%) and hotels (by 2%).
Up to the end of June more than 6.3 million overnight stays
In the first six months of 2019, tourists generated more than 2.5 million arrivals and more than 6.3 million overnight stays or 6% more arrivals and 4% more overnight stays than in the same period of the previous year.
