The economic sentiment deteriorated

Economic sentiment deteriorated at the monthly and annual levels, yet it remained well above the long-term average. The downward trend has continued since the end of 2017, when the second highest value was reached in the entire observed period.

Sentiment indicator deteriorated at the monthly level

In August 2019 the value of the sentiment indicator (at 6.0 percentage points – p.p.) decreased by 0.8 p.p. compared to July 2019 (at 6.8 p.p.).

The monthly decrease in the sentiment indicator was influenced by the services confidence indicator (by 0.6 p.p.), the confidence indicator among consumers (by 0.3 p.p.) and the confidence indicator in manufacturing (by 0.1 p.p.). The confidence indicator in retail trade had a positive influence (by 0.3 p.p.), while that in construction had no impact.

Sentiment indicator deteriorated also at the annual level

The sentiment indicator decreased by 4.6 p.p. at the annual level.

This decrease was influenced by four indicators out of five; the manufacturing confidence indicator (by 2.5 p.p.), and also the confidence indicators in services (by 1.6 p.p.), in construction (by 0.7 p.p.) and among consumers (by 0.5 p.p.).The confidence indicator in retail trade had a positive influence (by 0.6 p.p.).

Data are seasonally adjusted.

In January 2016, methodological changes were implemented in the Consumer Survey and these can have an impact on the value of the sentiment indicator.
