81% of fathers who acknowledged paternity in 2018 did so before the child was born
In 2018, 10,899 acknowledgments and 48 ascertainments of paternity were registered as well as 45 adoptions, 14 of which from abroad.
10,899 acknowledgments of paternity
In 2018, 10,899 acknowledgments of paternity were registered in Slovenia (446 fewer than a year before). In 81.4% of cases (the highest share so far) children were acknowledged before birth. In the first month after birth additional 14.4% of acknowledgments were registered. 134 children were older than one year; the oldest were aged 40 years or more.
Fathers who acknowledged paternity were on average 33.5 years old; the oldest of them were aged 60 years or more.
Those fathers who acknowledged paternity before birth were slightly younger (33.2 years).

In 2018, 45 adoptions were recorded in Slovenia. Before adoption 31 children lived in Slovenia, while 14 children were adopted from abroad and they lived in 8 foreign countries.
In 24 of 45 cases the child was adopted by a couple and got both new parents. In 20 cases the child was adopted by a spouse/partner of the child’s biological parent.
