Economic sentiment worsened in June 2019

In June 2019 the sentiment indicator was 2.3 p.p. lower at the monthly level and 8.0 p.p. lower compared to June 2018.

The sentiment indicator lower at the monthly level

In June 2019 the value of the sentiment indicator (at 5.4 percentage points – p.p.) decreased by 2.3 p.p. compared to May (at 7.7 p.p.).

The confidence indicators in manufacturing and retail trade had a negative impact on the sentiment indicator at the monthly level (by 2.5 and by 0.4 p.p., respectively). The confidence indicators among consumers and in services had a positive impact (by 0.4 and by 0.2 p.p., respectively), while the construction confidence indicator remained stable.


Sentiment indicator deteriorated at the annual level

In June 2019 the value of the sentiment indicator decreased by 8.0 p.p. over June 2018.

The manufacturing confidence indicator had the greatest impact (by 4.8 p.p.) on the deterioration of the sentiment indicator at the annual level. The confidence indicators in services (by 1.2 p.p.), among consumers (by 1.1 p.p.), in construction (by 0.6 p.p.) and in retail trade (by 0.2 p.p.) also had a negative impact.

The sentiment indicator is the weighted average of the confidence indicators in manufacturing, retail trade, construction, services and the consumer confidence indicator.

Data are seasonally adjusted.

In January 2016, methodological changes were implemented in the Consumer Survey and these can have an impact on the value of the sentiment indicator.
