At the end of 2018 3.6% more persons in employment than at the end of the previous year
At the end of 2018 there were around 887,200 persons in employment in Slovenia, of whom 9.3% had basic education or less. Employment increased more in the private sector than in the public sector. There were around 34,300 disabled persons in employment (excluding farmers).
At the end of 2018 more persons in employment than at the end of the previous year
At the end of 2018 there were around 887,200 persons in employment in Slovenia, of whom 55% (or almost 487,800) were men and 45% (or around 399,400) were women. Compared to December 2017, the number of persons in employment increased by 3.6% (for men by 4.3% and for women by 2.8%).
Over a third of persons in employment with tertiary education
At the end of 2018, 9.3% of persons in employment had basic education or less, 56.1% had upper secondary education and 34.6% had tertiary education.
Compared to the same period last year, the share of persons in employment with basic education or less decreased by 0.2 of a percentage point (p.p.), while the share of persons in employment with upper secondary education remained the same. The share of persons in employment with tertiary education increased by 0.2 p.p. Compared to the same period five years ago, the share of persons in employment with basic education or less went down by 2.9 p.p., the share of persons in employment with upper secondary education went down by 1.1 p.p. and the share of persons in employment with tertiary education went up by 4.0 p.p.
In December 2018 the highest share of men and women in employment had upper secondary education, i.e. men 64.0% and women 46.5%. 25.7% of men in employment (or around 125,600) and 45.3% of women in employment (or 181,000) had tertiary education.

In the last five years the number of persons in employment in the private sector up by 15.2%
Among the institutional sectors, compared to the same period of the previous year the number increased more in the private sector (by 4.5%) than in the public sector (by 1.4%). Compared to the same period five years ago the number in the public sector increased by 4.5% and in the private sector by 15.2%.
Compared to the end of 2017, within the private sector in 2018 the growth was significant among the persons in employment with tertiary education (5.1%); the number of men in employment with tertiary education was higher by 4.5% and the number of women in employment with tertiary education by 5.7%. A similar trend can also be observed in the public sector. In the public sector around 41,500 men in employment (2.1% more than in the previous year) and more than 94,100 women in employment (3.3% more than in the previous year) had tertiary education at the end of 2018.
In the public sector the share of persons in employment with basic education or less is falling, while in the private sector it grew in the past year. In the private sector at the end of 2018 there were around 45,900 men in employment with basic education or less or 3.9% more than in the previous year and around 25,400 women in employment with basic education or less or 0.8% more than at the end of the previous year.
Among persons in employment in the public sector the number of men with basic education or less (around 4,000 or 4.2% fewer than at the end of 2017) is much lower than the number of women (around 7,300 or 2.9% fewer than at the end of 2017).
Most of the disabled persons in employment in Osrednjeslovenska, Savinjska and Podravska statistical regions
At the end of 2018 there were around 34,300 disabled persons in employment (excluding farmers) in Slovenia, which was 3.2% more than in the previous year. There were fewer than 17,000 disabled men in employment and around 17,400 disabled women in employment. Compared to December 2017, the number of disabled women in employment increased more (by 4.0%) than the number of disabled men in employment (by 2.4%).
At the end of 2018 most of the disabled persons were employed by enterprises in Osrednjeslovenska (almost 10,100), Savinjska (around 5,800) and Podravska (around 5,200) statistical regions.
In all statistical regions of employment the total number of disabled persons in employment (excluding farmers) increased compared to the previous year, except in Obalno-kraška, where it decreased by 0.3%.
