In 2018 there were 146,196 active enterprises which generated EUR 102.4 billion of turnover, 7.5% more than in 2017, and EUR 24.1 billion of value added, 7.0% more than in 2017.
2018 a successful year for enterprises; more turnover and value added generated
In 2018 there were 146,196 active enterprises. An active enterprise is by definition of structural business statistics that business entity (company, cooperative society, sole proprietor, lawyer, landlord, other natural person and other legal form of organization) which in the observed year with predominately market activity generated turnover and had employees.
In 2018 enterprises generated EUR 102.4 billion of turnover, 7.5% more than in 2017, and EUR 24.1 billion of value added, 7.0% more than in 2017.
In 2018 there were also more employed persons in enterprises, namely 654,831 employees and self-employed persons, which is 4.2% more than in 2017. As regards sections of activity, the highest increase was recorded in construction (by 8.3%), and in real estate activities (by 8.5%).
In industry the highest increase in turnover in activity of water supply, sewerage, waste management and remediation activities
In 2018 there were 21,607 enterprises in industry. Almost 91.2% of them were registered in manufacturing; they employed 4.2% more persons than a year before.
Enterprises in activity of water supply, sewerage, waste management and remediation activities generated in 2018 9.0% more turnover; their turnover represented 3.6% of total turnover in industry. In manufacturing activities enterprises generated 6.6% more turnover; their turnover represented 78% of total turnover in industry. Enterprises in activity of electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply generated less turnover than in 2017.
Manufacturing enterprises generated most turnover and value added in industry. The largest share of turnover was generated by enterprises in manufacture of fabricated metal products, except machinery and equipment, in manufacture of electrical equipment and in manufacture of motor vehicles. The largest value added was generated by enterprises in manufacture of basic pharmaceutical products and pharmaceutical preparations, in manufacture of fabricated metal products, except machinery and equipment, and in manufacture of electrical equipment.
In construction 22.9% more turnover, 20.6% more production value and 17.8% more value added
In 2018 there were 19,220 active enterprises in construction, 552 more than a year before. Enterprises involved in construction generated EUR 6 billion of turnover in 2018 and had among all sections in structural business statistics the highest (22.9%) increase.
Value added in construction increased by 17.8% to EUR 1.7 billion. The highest increase was recorded in enterprises engaged in construction of buildings.
Most enterprises in construction were registered in specialized construction activities. In 2018 they generated 49.5% of total turnover, 59.4% of total value added, 50.5% of total production value, and employed 65.2% of all persons in construction.
Enterprises in trade generated 8.5% more turnover and 6.4% more value added
In wholesale and retail trade activity and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles there were 126 fewer enterprises in 2018 than in the previous year. In 26,265 enterprises there were 120,160 persons employed, who in 2018 generated EUR 36.7 billion of turnover or 8.5% more than a year before. Enterprises in trade generated EUR 4.5 billion of value added, which is 6.4% more than in the previous year.
Most enterprises are micro with fewer than 9 persons employed. Their share in the total number is 94.4%. In 2018 these enterprises generated 5.2% more turnover and 6.8% more value added.
Turnover of enterprises in other service activities 7.9% higher
Turnover of 79,104 active enterprises registered in other service activities was 7.9% higher than in 2017. The highest increase in turnover was recorded in professional, scientific and technical activities (by 9.6%), followed by transportation and storage (by 9.3%), real estate activities (by 8.9%), and accommodation and food service activities (by 7.9%). The lowest increase in turnover was recorded in information and communication activity (by 3.7%).
Value added in 2018 amounted to EUR 7.8 billion, which is 8.1% more than in 2017.
Enterprises in other service activities employed almost the same number of persons as industry. In 2018 also in these activities as in industry the number of persons employed increased. It was higher by 4.4%. In 2018 there were 232,639 persons employed in these activities or 9,702 more than a year earlier.
