Almost 2.5 million overnight stays in the first quarter of 2019

More than 341,000 tourist arrivals or 2% more than in March 2018 and more than 825,000 tourist overnight stays or 1% more than in March 2018 were recorded in accommodation establishments in March 2019. Foreign tourists generated almost two thirds of all overnight stays.

More domestic tourists
More than 341,000 tourist arrivals and more than 825,000 tourist overnight stays were recorded in Slovenia in March 2019. Domestic tourists generated more than 124,000 arrivals or 10% more than in March 2018 and almost 329,000 overnight stays or 7% more than in March 2018. Foreign tourists generated more than 217,000 arrivals or 2% fewer than in March 2018 and more than 496,000 overnight stays or 3% fewer than in March 2018. Foreign tourists generated more than 60% of all tourist overnight stays.

Most tourists from Italy
In March 2019 the key markets, from which the most foreign tourists with the most overnight stays in Slovenia came, were Italy (16% or more than 79,000 overnight stays), Austria (12%), Croatia (8%), Germany (7%) and Hungary (6%).

Compared to March 2018, the number of overnight stays decreased by tourists from all key markets. It decreased the most by tourists from Germany (by 19%), followed by tourists from Hungary (by 15%), Austria (by 11%), Italy (by 2%) and Croatia (by 1%).

Health (spa) resorts in the first place
In March 2019 the highest number of tourist overnight stays (30% or almost 244,000) was recorded in health (spa) resorts, followed by mountain resorts (21%), seaside resorts (18%), and municipality Ljubljana (15%).

Compared to March 2018, the number of overnight stays increased in all types of tourist municipalities except for mountain resorts where it decreased by 1%. The increase was the highest in municipality Ljubljana (by 7%), followed by seaside resorts (by 6%) and heath (spa) resorts (by 2%).

Already more than 2.5 million tourist overnight stays in 2019
In the first quarter of 2019 tourists generated more than 921,000 arrivals and more than 2.5 million overnight stays, which is 3% more arrivals and 3% more overnight stays than in the same period of 2018.
