In 2018, 1,143,150 passenger cars were registered in Slovenia

At the end of 2018, about 1,569,000 road vehicles were registered in Slovenia; 1,519,000 of them were motor vehicles and 50,000 were trailing vehicles.

3% more registered motor vehicles, 6% more trailing vehicles
According to data from the Central Register of Vehicles and Traffic Documents, at the end of 2018 almost 1,569,000 road vehicles were registered in Slovenia, which is 3% more than at the end of 2017. There were almost 1,519,000 motor vehicles or 3% more than at the end of 2017, and over 50,000 trailing vehicles or 6% more than at the end of 2017. In the same comparison there were 2% more passenger cars; at the end of 2018 1,143,150 passenger cars were registered, representing 73% of all motor vehicles.

4% fewer road vehicles registered for the first time in Slovenia
In 2018 over 146,000 road vehicles were registered in Slovenia for the first time. Compared to 2017 the number decreased by 4%. Almost 108,000 passenger cars were registered for the first time or 6% more than in 2017. Compared to 2017, there were 11% more goods motor vehicles and 8% more trailing vehicles registered for the first time in Slovenia in 2018. 

3% more new passenger cars registered for the first time in Slovenia
In 2018 over 103,000 or 71% of all first-time registered road vehicles were new, i.e. they had not been registered abroad before.
The number of first-time registered new road vehicles in 2018 decreased more (by 9%) compared to 2017 than the number of first-time registered old and new road vehicles together. The number of first registrations of new passenger cars increased by 3%.

Three quarters more new electric passenger cars registered for the first time in Slovenia
At the end of 2018, 50% of registered passenger cars were using petrol and 49% diesel.
Compared to 2017, the number of petrol cars decreased by 1%, while the number of diesel cars increased by 5%. The number of passenger cars using liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and a combination with this fuel increased by 2%. The number of passenger cars using compressed natural gas (CNG) and a combination of this fuel increased by 9%. The number of hybrid passenger cars increased by 52% and exceeded 4,600. The number of electric passenger cars increased by 68% and exceeded 1,300.
The number of first registrations of new electric passenger cars increased by 75%.

On average the newest registered passenger cars in the Osrednjeslovenska statistical region
Registered passenger cars in Slovenia were in 2018 on average 10.1 years old. They were on average the oldest in the Goriška statistical region (11.5 years) and the newest in the Osrednjeslovenska statistical region (9.4 years). In municipality Ljubljana they were on average 9.1 years old.

Motorization rate the lowest in the Zasavska statistical region
In 2018, 549 passenger cars per 1,000 population were registered in Slovenia. Most passenger cars per 1,000 population were registered in the Goriška statistical region (614) and the fewest in the Zasavska statistical region (517). In municipality Ljubljana 513 passenger cars per 1,000 population were registered.
