In the last five years employment in professional, scientific and technical activities up by 12%

In March 2019 the number of persons in employment increased by 0.6% over the previous month. Compared to March 2018, it increased by 3.1% (to about 890,000). Around 56,300 persons were employed in professional, scientific and technical activities.

In March 2019 the number of persons in employment in Slovenia was about 890,000. Compared to the previous month it increased by 0.6% and compared to March 2018 by 3.1% (by about 26,800). The number of persons in paid employment increased by 0.7% (to just over 797,300) and the number of self-employed persons by 0.1% (to just over 92,700).

Compared to the previous month, the number of men in employment increased by 0.8% (to almost 489,800) and the number of women in employment by 0.3% (to more than 400,200). 

In March 2019 the number of persons in employment increased compared to February 2019 in all statistical regions of employment. It increased the most in the Osrednjeslovenska statistical region; i.e. by 0.5% or by more than 1,500 (to almost 309,500). 

An overview by activities shows that compared to February 2019 the number of persons in employment in Slovenia in March 2019 increased in all twenty activities. Compared to March 2018, the number of persons in employment decreased in four and increased in sixteen activities, the most in manufacturing, by about 7,400 or by 3.7%, and in construction, by about 6,000 or by 10.6%.

In March 2019 approximately 56,300 persons were employed in professional, scientific and technical activities. 53% of them were men and 47% were women. 76% of them were in paid employment and 24% were self-employed. 94% of them were Slovenian citizens and 6% were persons with other nationalities.

Compared to February 2019 the number of persons in employment in professional, scientific and technical activities increased by almost 200 or by 0.3%. Compared to March 2018 it increased by more than 1,800 or 3.4%. In the last five years the number increased by more than 6,100 or by 12.2%.



27% or almost 15,200 of persons in employment in professional, scientific and technical activities worked in architectural and engineering activities, technical testing and analysis. 23% or about 13,100 of them worked in activities of head offices, management consultancy activities, 19% or about 10,700 in legal and accounting activities, and 14% or about 7,800 in scientific research and development. The remaining 17% or about 9,500 worked in the remaining three professional, scientific and technical activities.

Among the seven professional, scientific and technical activities more men worked in four activities and more women in three activities. These activities were legal and accounting activities, advertising and market research, and other professional, scientific and technical activities.
