In 2018, 20% less water used for irrigation than in the previous year

In 2018, 3,220 hectares of land in Slovenia were irrigated, which is 0.6% less than in 2017. For irrigation 3.1 million m3 of water was used, 20% less than in the previous year.

For irrigation less water was used
In 2018 slightly more water was used for irrigation than in the previous year. 3.1 million m3 of water was 20% less than in 2017. Most of it, 63%, came from accumulations, 17% from ground water, 12% from running waters, and 8% from the public water supply system and from other sources. Thus, from accumulations 11% less water was used and from all other sources 10% less water was used for irrigation than in the previous year.

 

Most of the irrigated land was arable land and gardens
In 2018, 3,220 hectares of land in Slovenia were irrigated, which is 0.6% more than in 2017. More than half of the irrigated area (63%) was arable land and gardens, 13% was orchards, olive groves and nurseries, 11% was sports fields, 9% was snow making on ski slopes, and only 4% was greenhouses, vineyards and meadows.
