Tourist arrivals and overnight stays, Slovenia, March 2019
More domestic and fewer foreign tourists
More than 837,000 tourist overnight stays or 2% more than in 2018 and more than 344,000 tourist arrivals or 3% more than in 2018 were recorded in accommodation establishments in March 2019. Foreign tourists again generated over 60% of all tourist overnight stays.
In March more domestic tourists
More than 344,000 tourist arrivals and more than 837,000 tourist overnight stays were recorded in Slovenia in March 2019. Domestic tourists generated more arrivals and overnight stays, while foreign tourists, on the other hand, generated fewer.
Domestic tourists generated more than 125,000 arrivals or 11% more than in March 2018 and more than 333,000 overnight stays or 8% more than in March 2018. Foreign tourists generated more than 219,000 arrivals or 1% fewer than in March 2018 and almost 504,000 overnight stays or 1% fewer than in March 2018. Foreign tourists again generated over 60% of all overnight stays.
The most foreign tourists from Italy; Germany among the key markets again
In March 2019 the key markets, from which the most foreign tourists with the most overnight stays in Slovenia came, were Italy (16% or almost 80,000 overnight stays), Austria (12%), Croatia (8%), Germany (7%) and Hungary (6%).
Compared to March 2018 the number of overnight stays decreased for all key markets except for Croatia, where the numbers are about the same as in the previous year. The biggest decrease was recorded by German tourists (18%), followed by Hungarian tourist (12%), Austrian tourists (10%), and Italian tourists (1%).
Health (spa) resorts the most popular
In March 2019 the highest number of tourist overnight stays (29% or almost 245,000) was recorded in health (spa) resorts, followed by mountain resorts (22%), seaside resorts (18%), and municipality Ljubljana (15%).
Compared to March 2018, in all types of tourist municipalities the number of overnight stays increased. The increase in overnight stays was the highest in seaside resorts (8%), followed by municipality Ljubljana (7%), health (spa) resorts (2%) and mountain resorts (2%).
More arrivals and overnight stays of domestic and foreign tourists in the first quarter of 2019
In the first quarter of 2019 tourists generated almost 925,000 arrivals and almost 2.5 million overnight stays or 4% more arrivals and 4% more overnight stays than in the previous year. The same was true for arrivals of domestic tourists, which increased by 7%, and for arrivals of foreign tourists, which increased by 1%. As regards overnight stays, they increased for domestic tourists by 5% and for foreign tourists by 3%.
