Almost 34,000 persons in employment are aged 60 or more

In December 2018, the number of persons in employment decreased by 0.1% over the previous month. Compared to December 2017, it increased by 3.6% (to 887,170). 3.8% (or around 34,000) of persons in employment were aged 60 or more.

In December 2018 the number of persons in employment down by 0.1% over the previous month

In December 2018 the number of persons in employment in Slovenia was 887,170. Compared to the previous month it decreased by 0.1% and compared to December 2017 it increased by 3.6% (by about 31,000). The number of persons in paid employment decreased by 0.1% (to fewer than 792,300) and the number of self-employed persons by 0.2% (to just over 94.900).

Compared to the previous month, the number of men in employment decreased by 0.1% (to 487,779) and the number of women in employment also by 0.1% (to 399,391).

An overview by activities shows that compared to November 2018 the number of persons in employment in Slovenia in December 2018 increased in seven and decreased in thirteen activities. Compared to December 2017, the number of persons in employment decreased in four and increased in sixteen activities, the most in construction, by about 5,000.

In December 2018, the number of persons in employment increased compared to December 2017 in all statistical regions of employment, except in Goriška, where it decreased by 260 (to fewer than 46,300). The number of persons in employment in the Osrednjeslovenska statistical region increased the most; i.e. by 4.3% or by 12,710 (to almost 309,400).



In the last five years the number of persons in employment aged 60 or more increased by 143%

In December 2018, 3.8% or 33,942 of persons in employment were aged 60 or more. Among them, 65% were men and 35% were women. 79% of them were employed and 21% were self-employed.

An overview by activities shows that most persons in employment aged 60 or more work in manufacturing (16% or more than 5,300). 12% of them work in education (just over 3,900), 9% in professional, scientific and technical activities (more than 3,100) and 9% in human health and social work activities (more than 3,000).

Compared to December 2017, the number of persons in employment aged 60 or more increased by 18% (by about 5,300). The number of men increased by 16% and the number of women by 24%. In the last five years the number of persons in employment aged 60 or more increased by 143% (by about 20,000). Compared to December 2010 it increased by almost 200% (by more than 22,500).
