The number of employed persons fell by 0.9% in the first quarter of 2018
There were 964,000 employed in 1st quarter of 2018, by 0.9% fewer than in the previous quarter. In the 1st quarter of 2018 there were 679,000 employees permanently employed
(2.5% more than in the same period of the previous year), while the number of temporarily employed
employees was the same as in the same quarter last year. The number of student workers
fell by 10.2% or by 3,000 persons in comparison with the same period last year.
In Slovenia full-time employment
prevails, although in comparison to the last quarter of 2017 the number of employees working full-time in the first quarter of 2018 decreased by 2.0% (15,000). The ILO unemployment rate in the first quarter of 2018 slightly higher at 5.9%
In the observed quarter, there were 61,000 or 2.3% (1,000) more unemployed persons than in the last quarter of 2017, while compared to the same period last year, in the first quarter of 2018, the number of unemployed persons decreased by 22.9% (18,000). 2.8% (29,000) of the unemployed persons were long-term unemployed
(unemployed looking for work for one year or more among active population) and 1.5% (15,000) were the very long-term unemployed
(unemployed looking for work for two years or more among active population). The number of very long-term unemployed fell by 33.5% over the same period last year.
The unemployment rate
in the 1st quarter of 2018 increased by 0.1 of a percentage point compared to the fourth quarter of 2017. Among men it was 5.4% or 0.3 p.p. higher than in the previous quarter, while among women it increased by 0.1 p.p. over to the last quarter of 2017 and stood at 6.6%.
