In the 4th quarter of 2017 negative natural increase and positive net migration, total increase positive
In the fourth quarter of 2017 natural increase negative, net migration positive. Total increase was 990 persons.
Negative natural increase
In the fourth quarter of 2017, 4,809 live births and 5,075 deaths were recorded in Slovenia. Natural increase was negative (–266), the value of natural increase per 1,000 population (–0.5) remained unchanged compared to the same quarter of 2016.
Compared to the fourth quarter of 2016, the number of live births was 47 (1.0%) higher, and the number of deaths was 62 (1.2%) higher.
Fewer marriages and divorces
In the fourth quarter of 2017, 759 couples were married and 614 couples were divorced. Compared to the fourth quarter of 2016, the number of marriages was (21.9%) lower and the number of divorces was (10.5%) lower.
Increase in internal migration
In the fourth quarter of 2017, 28,950 people migrated internally, which is 0.9% more than in the same period of 2016.
Net migration of Slovenian citizens negative for the twenty-seventh consecutive quarter
Compared to the same period of 2016, the number of immigrants to Slovenia increased by 28% to 5.514 in the fourth quarter of 2017. The number of emigrants increased by 5% to 4.258. The number of emigrated citizens of Slovenia (2,238) again exceeded the number of emigrated foreigners (2,020).
