Volume turnover in retail trade in February 2018 lower at the monthly and at the annual level

Volume turnover in retail trade in February 2018 decreased by 0.4% over the previous month and by 1.6% over February 2017.

Retail trade turnover lower at the monthly and at the annual level

In February 2018 volume turnover in retail trade went down by 0.4% at the monthly level. The decrease was influenced by lower volume turnover in specialized stores with motor fuels (by 3.2%), as the turnover without retail trade of motor fuel went up by 0.4% over the previous month. Compared to January 2018 turnover in retail trade with food increased by 1.1%, while turnover in retail trade with non-food slightly decreased (by 0.9%).

At the annual level in February 2018 volume turnover in retail trade decreased by 1.6%. In specialized stores with motor fuels it decreased by 5.5%, while in retail trade except motor fuel it remained unchanged. The volume of sales of food decreased by 4.1%, while the volume of sales of non-food products increased by 3.1%.

In the first two months of this year, volume turnover in retail trade decreased by 0.8%. Compared to the same period of the previous year it went down by 4.3% in specialized stores with motor fuels and by 5.8% in retail trade with food, while in retail trade with non-food it went up by 5.8%.

Turnover in trade and repair of motor vehicles higher at the monthly and at the annual level

The volume turnover in trade and repair of motor vehicles in February 2018 increased by 3.7% at the monthly level after a fall in January. At the annual level, volume turnover increased by 17.1% and in the first two months compared to the same period in the previous year by 16.6%.

Turnover indices for the entire trade

In 2018 we started to publish turnover indices for the entire trade (G), which includes retail trade (G47), wholesale (G46) and wholesale and retail trade and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles (G45). In 2018 we also started to publish volume turnover indices of wholesale. Volume data relating to wholesale and the entire trade are available in the SI-STAT Database from 2010 onwards.

In the SI-STAT Database we started to publish together the data for retail trade and trade and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles and the data for wholesale. Previously they were published separately. Data are available in the tables under Indices of Turnover in Retail Trade, Wholesale, and Wholesale, Retail Trade and Repair of Motor Vehicles and Motorcycles.

Detailed data for February 2018 will be published in the SI-STAT Database on 26 April 2018. Together with this release the detailed data for retail trade and data for wholesale for January 2018 are published in the SI-STAT Database.
