Average gross earnings for January 2018 3.7% lower than earnings for December 2017

Average gross earnings for January 2018 amounted to EUR 1,659.27. Compared to earnings for December 2017 they were lower mostly due to lower extra payments (13th month payments and Christmas bonuses).

Average earnings for January 2018 lower than earnings for December 2017
Average gross earnings for January 2018 amounted to EUR 1,659.27. Compared to gross earnings for December 2017 they were lower in nominal terms by 3.7% and in real terms by 2.9%. Average net earnings for January 2018 amounted to EUR 1,077.73. Compared to net earnings for December 2017 they were lower in nominal terms by 4.6% and in real terms by 3.8%. The decrease in average earnings was mostly due to lower extra payments (13th month payments and Christmas bonuses).

Compared to earnings for January 2017, average gross earnings for January 2018 increased in nominal (by 4.2%) and in real terms (by 2.7%).

Compared to December 2017, average earnings for January 2018 decreased more in the private sector
Compared to earnings for December 2017, average net earnings for January 2018 were lower in both sectors, in the private sector by 5.3% and in the public sector by 3.5% (in institutional sector general government they were lower by 1.0%).

Average earnings for January 2018 the highest in mining and quarrying
Average net earnings for January 2018 were higher than earnings for December 2017 only in mining and quarrying (by 33.7%; mostly due to higher extra payments), in public administration and defence, compulsory social security (by 1.7%) and in education (by 0.1%). In all other activities average net earnings for January 2018 were lower than earnings for December 2017; the decrease was the largest in electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply (by 16.6%; mostly due to lower extra payments paid with earnings for the previous month).

Average net earnings for January 2018 were the highest in mining in quarrying (EUR 1,760.95) and the lowest in administrative and support service activities (EUR 750.60).

Average net earnings for January 2018 the highest in the Osrednjeslovenska statistical region
Average net earnings for January 2018 were the highest in the Osrednjeslovenska statistical region (EUR 1,167.24); they were 8.3% higher than the national average. The only other region with higher average net earnings than the national average was Jugovzhodna Slovenija (by 2.6%).
