In the fourth quarter of 2017 around 3,700 more job vacancies and 23,700 more occupied post were recorded in Slovenia than in the same quarter of 2016. The job vacancy rate went up by 0.4 of a percentage point.
Supply of job vacancies remains at the same level as in the previous quarter
In the fourth quarter of 2017 almost 17,400 job vacancies were advertised in Slovenia, which is the same as in the previous quarter. Most of the job vacancies were published in manufacturing (around 4,500) and in construction (slightly more than 3,400). A comparison with the previous quarter shows that the demand for new labour force increased the most in professional, scientific and technical activities (by 58,2%) and in health and social care activities (by 40,1%).
In this quarter employers with 10 or more persons in paid employment advertised slightly more than 10,800 job vacancies, which was 62.6% of all job vacancies in Slovenia. As regards employers with 10 or more persons in paid employment, the highest increase in job vacancies was recorded in health and social care activities (around 200 more than in the previous quarter).
How many employers seeking new labour force
This survey covers employers with at least one person in paid employment, except companies with agriculture as their main activity. In the fourth quarter of 2017 the share of the companies with at least one advertised job vacancy was 20.9%; compared to the previous quarter it was higher by 0.2 of a percentage point. A good economic situation increases the number of job vacancies as well as the number of different employers seeking new candidates.
Job vacancy rate remains the same
In the fourth quarter of 2017 the job vacancy rate was 2.3%, the same as in the previous quarter. Compared to the same quarter of 2016 it increased by 0.4 of a percentage point. This time the job vacancy rate was the highest in construction (6.4%) and in accommodation and food service activities (4.5%).
The number of occupied posts increased in this quarter, too
In the fourth quarter of 2017, slightly more than 737,700 posts were occupied, which is 8,300 more than in the previous quarter. Of all occupied posts 81% were at employers with 10 or more persons in paid employment. Compared to the previous quarter, the number of occupied posts increased the most in manufacturing (by more than 2,800) and in trade activities (by more than 1.300).
How did 2017 end in terrms of job vacancies and occupied posts?
All three indicators monitored by this survey already suggested positive trends during the year. Compared to the previous year, 2017 ended:
- with 3,700 more job vacancies,
- with 23,700 more occupied posts and
- with a 0.4 of a percentage point higher job vacancy rate.
According to the Employment Service of Slovenia, there are still structural imbalances because the employers in spite of everything have a difficulty finding appropriate labour force for certain workplaces.
