On 1 October 2017 Slovenia had a population 2,065,890 or 271 less than three months earlier. The number of Slovene citizens decreased while the number of foreign citizens increased and reached 5.8%.
Fewer citizens of Slovenia, more foreign citizens
According to the Statistical Office of Slovenia, the population of Slovenia decreased by 271 in the third quarter of 2017. The number of citizens of Slovenia decreased by nearly 2,300, while the number of foreign citizens increased by 2,000 (1.7%). On 1 October 2017 the 119,633 foreign citizens represented 5.8% of Slovenia’s population.
Increasing share of women among foreign citizens
On 1 October 2017 the population of Slovenia consisted of 1,023,100 men and 1,039,790 women. The share of women among citizens of Slovenia was 51.3% (this share has been slowly decreasing for a number of years); among foreign citizens there were 35.3% women (their share has increased by 2.8 percentage points in the last four years).
