In Slovenia more buildings and dwellings completed in 2016 than in 2015

In 2016, 57% more buildings and 7% more dwellings were completed in Slovenia than in 2015, mostly as a result of the construction of smaller non-residential buildings. Most dwellings were completed in Ljubljana (171), Izola (96) and Maribor (62).

57% more buildings completed than in 2015

In 2016 6,715 buildings were completed in Slovenia, which is 57% more than in 2015. Compared to 2015, 5% more residential buidings and twice as many non-residential buildings were completed in 2016. The growth in the number of completed non-residential buildings was mainly influenced by the construction of non-complex buildings, as in 2016 about 3,000 non-complex buildings were completed, which is three times as many as in 2015. The floor area of completed residential buidings was 10% larger and the floor area of completed non-residential buidings was 43% larger than in 2015. In 2016, 9,014 buildings were still under construction, 65% of them were residential and 35% of them were non-residential.

7% more dwellings completed than in 2015

In 2016, 9,176 dwellings were under construction in Slovenia, of which 2,975 were completed by the end of the year, which is 7% more than in 2015. 90% of the dwellings were under construction by natural persons and 32% of them were completed by the end of 2016. Other dwellings were being built by legal persons and 38% of them were completed by the end of 2016. In 2016 natural persons completed 8% more dwellings and legal persons 1% more dwellings than in 2015.

The average useful floor space of a dwelling completed in 2016 was 151 m2; in one-dwelling buildings it was 163 m2 and in multi-dwelling buildings 91 m2. 52% dwellings in one-dwelling buildings have five or more rooms, while in two and more dwelling buildings 30% of dwellings have three rooms.

Most dwellings built in the Osrednjeslovenska statistical region

In 2016 most of the dwellings were completed in the Osrednjeslovenska statistical region (19% of all), followed by the Podravska statistical region (17%). On the other hand, the fewest dwellings were completed in the Primorsko-notranjska region (2%). Among the municipalities in the Osrednjeslovenska statistical region most dwellings were completed in Ljubljana (171), Ivančna Gorica (42) and Grosuplje (40), whereas in the Podravska statistical region most dwellings were completed in Maribor (62), Slovenska Bistrica (59) and Ormož (37).

Data for completed buildings and dwellings are estimated based on building permits data. From 2016 on the source of the building permits data has been the Spatial Information System. Before 2016 the data were collected with the paper questionnaire on building permits (GRAD-GD/M).
