On 1 July 2016 Slovenia had a population of 2,064,241 or 870 more than three months earlier. The number of Slovene citizens decreased while the number of foreign citizens increased and reached 5.4%.
Fewer citizens of Slovenia, more foreign citizens
According to the Statistical Office of Slovenia, the population of Slovenia increased by nearly 900 in the second quarter of 2016. The number of citizens of Slovenia decreased by more than 800 (0.0%), while the number of foreign citizens increased by more than 1,700 (1.6%). On 1 July 2016 the 110,607 foreign citizens represented 5.4% of Slovenia’s population.

Increasing share of women among foreign citizens
On 1 July 2016 the population of Slovenia consisted of 1,023,872 men and 1,040,369 women. The share of women among citizens of Slovenia was 51.3% (this share has been slowly decreasing for a number of years); among foreign citizens there were 34.8% women (their share has increased by 3.4 percentage points in the last four years).
