On 1 April 2016 Slovenia had a population of 2,063,371 or 817 less than three months earlier. The number of Slovene citizens decreased while the number of foreign citizens increased and exceeded 5.3%.
Fewer citizens of Slovenia, more foreign citizens
According to the Statistical Office of Slovenia, the population of Slovenia decreased by over 800 in the first quarter of 2016. The number of citizens of Slovenia decreased by nearly 2,000 (0.1%), while the number of foreign citizens increased by more than 1,100 (1.1%). On 1 April 2016 the 108,899 foreign citizens represented 5.3% of Slovenia’s population.
Increasing share of women among foreign citizens
On 1 April 2016 the population of Slovenia consisted of 1,023,153 men and 1,040,218 women. The share of women among citizens of Slovenia was 51.3% (this share has been slowly decreasing for a number of years); among foreign citizens there were 34.8% women (their share has increased by 3.7 percentage points in the last four years).
