In 2015, the share of fathers who acknowledged paternity before the birth of child was the highest so far
In 2015, 11,695 acknowledgments and 15 ascertainments of paternity were registered as well as 39 adoptions, 15 of which from abroad.
11,695 acknowledgments of paternity
Slovenia is one of the EU-28 Member States with high shares of children born each year to unmarried mothers (58% in 2015). This is why the number of acknowledgments of paternity is high; especially high is the share of acknowledgments before the birth of a child.
In 2015, 11,695 acknowledgments were registered (369 fewer than a year before). In 78% of cases (the highest share so far) children were acknowledged before birth. In the first month after birth additional 18% of acknowledgments were registered. 154 children were older than one year; the oldest were aged 30 years or more.
Fathers who acknowledged paternity were on average 33.2 years old; the oldest of them were aged 60 years or more. Those fathers who acknowledged paternity before birth were slightly younger (33 years). Fathers of children born in 2015 were on average 33.5 years old.
39 adoptions, 6 fewer than a year before
In 2015, 39 adoptions were recorded in Slovenia, six fewer than a year before. Before adoption 24 children lived in Slovenia, while 15 children were adopted from abroad.
The majority of children adopted from abroad (8) were born in Ghana, 3 in the Russian Federation, and 3 in Liberia. All children adopted from abroad were younger than 3 years.
In 22 cases (among 39 adoptions) the child was adopted by a couple and got both new parents. In 15 cases the child was adopted by a spouse/partner of the child’s biological parent.
