Unpopulated settlements
On 1 January 2016 there were 6,036 settlements in Slovenia, 59 of which were unpopulated. The largest number of unpopulated settlements was in municipality Kočevje: 19.

In 2015 two settlements became unpopulated: Podjetniško naselje Kočevje in municipality Kočevje and Brežec pri Podgorju in municipality Kostel had one and two residents, respectively, on 1 January 2015, and none at the beginning of 2016.

One new settlement was established in 2015, namely Marendol in municipality Sevnica. It had a popoulation of 17 on 1 January 2016.

The most densely populated settlement
The most densely populated settlement in Slovenia was Piran in the municipality of the same name where an average square kilometre of the settlement's surface area had 5,622 residents. If we were to populate the entire surface area of Slovenia this densely, we would need nearly 114 million people.

The most sparsely populated settlement in Slovenia, excluding unpopulated ones, was Trnovec in municipality Kočevje, where there was less than 0.1 of a resident living on an average square kilometre of the surface area (or one resident per nearly 11 km2). If the entire country was populated this sparsely, it would have fewer than 1.900 residents.

Settlements without children, settlements without the elderly
Five settlements of at least 30 residents had no residents under 15 years of age. The largest of such settlements was Roje pri Trebelnem in municipality Mokronog - Trebelno, where all 44 residents were aged 15 or more.

There were three settlements without elderly population (aged 65 or older). The largest of these settlements was Snovik in municipality Kamnik where all 54 residents were under 65 years of age.
