In Slovenia more hours worked in the 4th quarter of 2015 than in the 4th quarter of 2014

In Slovenia 3.6% more hours were worked in the 4th quarter of 2015 than in the 4th quarter of 2014 due to fewer public holidays and more persons employed. The highest average number of hours was worked by persons employed in public administration, defence and compulsory social security.

In the 4th quarter of 2015 more hours worked than in the 4th quarter of 2014
According to provisional data, in the 4th quarter of 2015 persons in paid employment in Slovenia worked 305.6 million hours, which is by 3.6% more than in the 4th quarter of 2014. The reason for this is mainly fewer public holidays (non-working days) as well as the increase in the number of persons in paid employment compared to the 4th quarter of 2014.

Increase in the total number of hours worked was observed also at the annual level, i.e. the total number of hours worked in 2015 was 2.3% higher than in 2014.

The highest average number of hours worked by persons employed in public administration, defence and compulsory social security
In the 4th quarter of 2015 a person in paid employment in Slovenia worked a monthly average of 145 hours, which is by 2.5% more than in the 4th quarter of 2014. In the October-December 2015 period the largest number of hours was worked by persons employed in public administration, defence and compulsory social security (monthly by 12 hours more than the national average), while the lowest monthly average of hours in this period was worked by persons employed in accommodation and food service activities; on average 134 hours per month.

In 2015, the largest number of hours was worked by persons employed in construction (monthly 144 hours, i.e. by 7 hours more than the national average). Also, the share of hours worked in paid hours was in this activity the highest among all the activities; 85.3%.

The largest increase in hours worked in administrative and support service activities, the largest decrease in professional, scientific and technical activities
As regards activities, the total number of hours worked in the 4th quarter of 2015 compared to the 4th quarter of 2014 increased the most in administrative and support service activities (by 9.1%), while the largest decrease in the total number of hours worked in this period (i.e. by 2.6%) was recorded in professional, scientific and technical activities. The main reason for changes in the total number of hours worked in administrative and support service activities is the increase in the number of persons employed in these activities.

Similar observations as for the 4th quarter of 2015 apply also for the whole year 2015. Compared to 2014, the largest increase in the total number of hours worked was observed in administrative and support service activities, by 14.6%, while the largest decrease was observed in professional, scientific and technical activities, by 3.2%.
