The largest share of tourists in the age group 65+
In October, tourist accommodation establishments recorded almost 513,000 arrivals and about 1.2 million overnight stays, 10% more than a year earlier, the largest number in municipalities Ljubljana, Piran and Bled. The largest share of overnight stays was in the age group 65+ years.
More domestic and foreign tourists than a year ago
Domestic tourists generated almost a third (30%) of all overnight stays in accommodation establishments. There were almost 139,000 arrivals and more than 364,000 overnight stays (both 4% more than in October last year). They spent the largest number of their nights in municipalities Piran, Brežice and Moravske Toplice. The largest share of overnight stays was in the age group 65+ years, followed by the age group 7–14 years.
Foreign tourists generated almost 375,000 arrivals and more than 866,000 overnight stays, 12% more than a year earlier. They generated 70% of all tourist overnight stays and again spent the largest number of their nights in municipalities Ljubljana, Piran and Bled. The largest share of overnight stays was in the age group 65+ years, followed by the age group 55–64 years.

Among key markets tourists from the United States
Tourists from Germany generated 13% of all foreign overnight stays or 110,000, which was 3% more than last October. They spent the largest number of nights in municipalities Ljubljana, Piran and Bled. The largest share of overnight stays was in the age group 65+ years.
They were followed by tourists from Austria, who generated 100,000 overnight stays, or 6% more than the year before. They generated 12% of all foreign stays, the largest number in municipalities Piran, Moravske Toplice and Ljubljana. The largest share of overnight stays was in the age group 65+ years.
Tourists from Italy and Hungary each generated 7% of all foreign overnight stays. The former spent the largest number of nights in Ljubljana and the latter in Piran. They were followed by tourists from Croatia and the United States.

The largest number of overnight stays in health (spa) resorts
The largest number of tourist overnight stays in October was recorded in health (spa) resorts (22% of all overnight stays); 273,000 overnight stays were generated, the largest number in Moravske Toplice. They were followed by mountain resorts and Ljubljana (21% each) and seaside resorts (19%).
The most visited municipality was Ljubljana, with 254,000 overnight stays, the vast majority generated by foreign tourists (96%). Most overnight stays were generated by tourists from the United States, Germany and the group of other Asian countries.
In Piran, 155,000 overnight stays were generated, almost two thirds by foreign tourists. A breakdown by individual countries shows that most of them were from Slovenia (domestic tourists), followed by tourists from Austria, Germany and Italy.
A similar structure of tourists as in the capital can be found in municipality Bled, where 95% of overnight stays were generated by foreign guests, mostly those from Hungary, Germany, and the United States.
More than half of all overnight stays in hotels
Tourists generated most overnight stays in hotels (676,400 or 55% of all). Compared to last year, the number increased by 9%. They were followed by private accommodations – rented rooms and dwellings (19%), where the number went up by 10%. Camping sites recorded 7% of all overnight stays, a fifth more than last year.
In hotels, domestic tourists generated fewer than one-third of all overnight stays, while in private accommodations – rented rooms and dwellings this share was even smaller (around one-fifth). On the other hand, the share of domestic and foreign tourists in camping sites was almost equal.
In the first ten months, 6% more overnight stays
In the first ten months of this year, tourists generated over 6.3 million arrivals (7% more than in the same period last year) and just over 16.2 million overnight stays (6% more). Foreign tourists generated over three quarters (76%) of all overnight stays, the largest number tourists from Germany.
Domestic tourists generated over 3.9 million overnight stays, the same as in the same period last year, and foreign tourists more than 12.3 million or 9% more.
Interesting fact: Slovenia welcomed over 17,500 tourists on the holiday
According to the experimental statistics Daily tourism flow in Slovenia, on 31 October, the Reformation Day, tourist accommodation establishments in Slovenia recorded 17,500 tourists, the largest number of whom came from Italy, Croatia and Austria.
Tourist arrivals are generally the most numerous on Fridays and the least numerous on Sundays, with noticeable differences among individual markets. For nearby key markets, such as Germany, Austria, and Italy, most arrivals occur on Fridays. In contrast, arrivals from more distant markets, including the United States, are distributed fairly evenly throughout the week.
