Total net electricity generation and export lower, import higher than a year ago

In September 2025, total net electricity generation was 932 GWh. Compared to August, it decreased by 10 %, and compared to September 2024 it decreased by 28%. Compared to the same month last year, generation in hydro power plants was 38% lower, in thermal power plants it was 73% lower, in solar and wind power plants it increased by 38% and in the nuclear power plant it was 9% lower.

In line with the lower production in thermal power plants, fuel consumption also decreased. Total fuel consumption was 75% lower than a year ago.

875 GWh of electricity was imported and 804 GWh was exported. Compared to the same month last year, import increased by 7% and export decreased by 23%.

Electricity consumption in business entities up, in households down

In September, households consumed 215 GWh and business entities 588 GWh of electricity. With 307 GWh consumed, manufacturing dominated. Compared to the previous month, electricity consumption in households went down by 3%, and in business entities up by 6%.

Energy supply up at the monthly and down at the annual level

Compared to September, the supply of energy commodities in general went up: of hard coal by 88%, of Heating and Other Gasoil by 77%, of LPG by 24%, of coke oven coke by 19%, of natural gas by 13%, and of kerosene jet fuel by 8%. On the other hand, the supply of other petroleum products went down by 43%, of motor gasoline by 22%, and of transport diesel oil by 3%.

Compared to last September, the supply of energy commodities decreased: of other petroleum products by 30%, of Heating and Other Gasoil by 16%, of transport diesel oil by 10%, of motor gasoline by 9% and of coke oven coke by 5%.

The share of energy from renewable sources in gross final energy consumption at 24.64%

The share of energy from renewable sources (RES) in gross final energy consumption in Slovenia in 2024 was 24.64%, 0.43 of a percentage point lower than the year before.

In the electricity sector, the share of RES in gross final energy consumption in Slovenia increased by 1.19 percentage points to 43.08%, mainly due to the large increase in electricity generation in solar power plants (by 28.83%).

Compared to 2023, the share of RES in gross final energy consumption decreased by 0.78 of a percentage point to 9.24%. The decrease was influenced by the consumption of biofuels in transport, which was 4.55% lower than in 2023, while at the same time the consumption of all fuels in transport increased by 5.10%, which also affected the calculation of the share.

In the heating and cooling sector, the share of RES in gross final energy consumption in 2024 also decreased compared to the previous year, namely by 0.64 of a percentage point to 33.66%. In this sector, wood fuels for heating contribute the most to the share of RES in gross final consumption. Their consumption decreased by 5.75%, while the consumption of all energy sources in the heating and cooling sector increased by 0.85%.
