Producer prices down in September

Following a price increase in the previous month, in September, producer prices went down again. On the other hand, prices are still rising year-on-year.

Prices down at the monthly level …

Compared to August, producer prices declined by 0.2%. The prices of products for sale on the domestic market decreased by 0.3% and on non-domestic markets by 0.1%. Of the latter, the prices of products for sale on the markets of euro area countries remained on average the same and of non-euro area countries went down by 0.2%.

Prices decreased in all main industrial groupings. The prices of energy went down by 1.5%, of consumer goods by 0.2%, of capital goods also by 0.2% and of intermediate goods by 0.1%

Prices decreased the most in manufacture of other transport equipment (by 2.9%), followed by electricity (by 2.7%) and manufacture of computer and optical products (by 2.1%). They increased the most in manufacture of coke and petroleum products (by 3.8%), followed by manufacture of wearing apparel (by 1.3%).

… but still up year-on-year

In one year, producer prices increased by 0.7%. The prices of products for sale on the domestic market went up by 0.9% and on non-domestic markets by 0.5%. Of those, the prices of products sold on the markets of euro area countries increased by 0.8% and of non-euro area countries decreased by 0.5%.

The prices of consumer goods rose by 3.5% and of intermediate goods by 0.3%, while energy prices fell by 8.0%. Capital goods prices remained the same as last September.

Prices grew the most in mining and quarrying (by 9.5%), followed by manufacture of leather and leather products (by 6.4%), manufacture of beverages (by 5.5%) and water collection, treatment and supply (by 5.4%). On the other hand, they decreased the most in manufacture of coke and petroleum products (by 8.3%), followed by electricity (by 8.1%), manufacture of computer and optical products (by 5.0%) and manufacture of paper and paper products (by 3.7%).
