Again more passengers at the airport and in ports

At the road border crossings, more passenger and goods vehicles were recorded than last August. At the airport, more passengers were recorded and more goods were handled. In Slovenian ports, the number of passengers and the amount of goods handled were higher.

A lot more new passenger car registrations

In August 2025, about 10,000 road motor vehicles were registered for the first time in Slovenia or 3% more than the year before. Of these, almost 7,000 passenger cars were registered for the first time, which was 5% more than last August. More than 4,200 were first registrations of new passenger cars or 16% more.

On the two busiest sections fewer passenger and goods vehicles

Among selected counters on motorways, the section with the Drenov Grič counter near Vrhnika was the busiest with passenger vehicles this August. It counted over 2.2 million passenger vehicles or 3% fewer than in the same month the year before. The largest number of goods vehicles (almost 0.6 million) was recorded by the Ravbarkomanda counter near Postojna, which was 2% fewer year-on-year.

More goods vehicles at road border crossings 

10.4 million passenger vehicles entered or exited Slovenia via road border crossings, 3% more than in August of last year. There were also almost 1.8 million goods vehicles or 7% more.

At the airport more passengers and goods 

More than 186,300 passengers departed from or arrived at Ljubljana Jože Pučnik Airport, which was 12% more than last August. Almost 900 tonnes of goods were handled, which was 3% more.

Four tenths more passengers in ports

369 ships arrived at or departed from Slovenian ports, 11% more year-on-year. Of them, 116 were cruise ships. Passenger vessels transported 30,500 passengers or 40% more. 1.8 million tonnes of goods were handled in the port of Koper, which was almost a tenth (9%) more.

In the 2nd quarter of 2025, less goods carried by trains …

In the 2nd quarter of this year, almost 4.4 million tonnes of goods were carried by rail and almost 1.1 billion tonne-kilometres were performed, which was a 9% decrease in goods carried and an 8% decrease in tonne-kilometres performed compared to the 2nd quarter of 2024.

… and slightly more by road goods motor vehicles

From April to June, road goods motor vehicles registered in Slovenia carried almost 27.2 million tonnes of goods and performed almost 5.1 billion tonne-kilometres, which was 1% more goods carried and 13% fewer tonne-kilometres performed than last year in the 2nd quarter.

At the time of this release some inconsistencies were detected in the administrative sources, which is why the data for August on urban and interurban public scheduled road passenger transport have not been published. Data on urban and interurban public scheduled road passenger transport will be published in the SiStat Database as soon as they are available.

Data on port traffic published by SURS may differ from the data published by ports in their reports. The differences are due to the use of different methodologies (different data sources, tare consideration, etc.).
