Gross fixed capital formation by region, 2023
Gross fixed capital formation up the most in Primorsko-notranjska and Zasavska
Compared to the previous year, gross fixed capital formation (GFCF) increased by 11.0% in Vzhodna Slovenija and by 10.3% in Zahodna Slovenija. It went up in all statistical regions, the most in Primorsko-notranjska and Zasavska.
In 2023 a continued growth in investment activity
In 2023, the investment activity continued. GFCF amounted to EUR 13,832 million, which is nominally 10.6% (in real terms 5.5%) more than in the previous year. In the cohesion region Vzhodna Slovenija GFCF was nominally higher by 11.0% and in the cohesion region Zahodna Slovenija by 10.3%.
In both cohesion regions the largest share of GFCF was generated in manufacturing (25% in Vzhodna Slovenija, 18% in Zahodna Slovenija), followed by public administration, defence, education, human health and social work (sections O, P, Q; 23% and 22%, respectively).
Investment rate the highest in the Primorsko-notranjska statistical region
Osrednjeslovenska statistical region accounted for the highest share of GFCF, over a third (34.1%), followed by Podravska (12.8%), Savinjska (11.5%) and Gorenjska (8.3%). The smallest shares of GFCF were generated in Zasavska (1.6%), Primorsko-notranjska (2.3%) and Posavska (3.1%).
Relative to the economic development of the region, the investment rate, expressed as a share of GFCF in the regional gross domestic product, was the highest in Primorsko-notranjska (29.7%), followed by Koroška (27.7%) and Pomurska (26.4%). The rate was the lowest in Osrednjeslovenska (18.7%) and Gorenjska (21.0%).
GFCF increased in nominal terms in all statistical regions, the most in Primorsko-notranjska (by 30.1%), followed by Zasavska (by 23.7%) and Obalno-kraška (by 18.7%).
One quarter of GFCF generated by the general government sector
The general government sector generated a quarter of total GFCF; 16% was generated by central and 9% by local government. In 2023, the government sector GFCF was nominally higher by 11.8%; by 18.6% at the central level and by 1.9% at the local level.
The largest share of general government GFCF was generated in the Osrednjeslovenska region (39.2%), followed by Podravska (13.1%) and Obalno-kraška (11.1%). The smallest shares were generated in Zasavska (1.6%) and Koroška (2.5%).
